Cradlesong Blog: A Day in the Wars

Health
My little girl has been in the wars today. This morning she broke a saucer and cut her thumb. It was a tiny little cut and she didn't even cry so nothing to worry about, but she got her first band aid which she thought was very interesting. A little later she misjudged digging something out of her toy box and knocked her face and needed a big hug to get over that, but again, nothing to worry about. After lunch we headed into the city to do a little sight seeing with Nanny and Grandad. We stopped off for a cup of tea at the QVB before we started our exploring. What a mistake that turned out to be! A very careless waitress brought pots of tea to the table spilling hot tea all over the floor and then passed them over Sophie before I had a chance to stop her. She scalded her leg and as you can imagine there were tears and screams as we doused her in cold water. Poor little angel was beside herself and I think all the attention from lots of strangers made things worse. I have to say the number of people who stopped and helped us was really comforting and Sophie calmed down quickly once we stopped running the cold water over her and I just gave her a cuddle. She continued to be in good spirits for the rest of the day too. However, I had to put her to bed with a big red crescent on the top of her thigh and it breaks my heart. I'm hoping by the morning it will be looking better and her happy mood continues.

Today is not the first time I've seen people attempt to pass hot food and drinks across babies or children when serving tables and it's something I'm quite conscious of. I'm sad that I didn't manage to stop the waitress sooner today, but I do think if I hadn't intervened both Sophie's legs and possibly more of her, would of been burnt. To me it seems such an obvious thing, not to pass hots things over or even near children, or adults for that matter, but unfortunately not everybody thinks the same. Today was such a silly and avoidable accident and I think that's what gets to me the most. So let's hope tomorrow is a better day.

I do still have some happier stories in the pipeline and hopefully won't be distracted by any more dramas before I have a chance to post them.
