Cradlesong BlogSeat Belt Saga
General
We've been having some real problems with Sophie in the car. She has learnt how to wiggle her arms under the shoulder straps of the five point harness. It has been a real worry for me and caused dramas especially when it's just been the two of us in the car and I've had to pull over to get her back in the seat belt properly. We tried doing a bit of a make-do fix with a velcro strap across her chest between the shoulder straps, but she managed to bypass that pretty easily. Anyway, on the weekend we found a specially made gadget that wraps around the shoulder straps and poppers into place, that has been designed for the exact problem we've been having. It's called the SECURAP and is made by infa-secure. Thankfully it seems to of done the trick. Sophie has tried to get her arms under the belt since we got it, but has failed and a Playschool CD distracted her from her consequent frustration, so fingers crossed we have a solution.

Parenting NewsMother's Day Reminder
General
Sunday 9th May is Mother's Day here in Australia and a number of other countries including New Zealand, the US and Canada. So this is a gentle reminder to spoil your Mum on Sunday.

Wikipedia tells me that in Europe there were several long standing traditions where a specific Sunday was set aside to honor motherhood and mothers such as Mothering Sunday. Mothering Sunday celebrations are part of the liturgical calendar in several Christian denominations, including Anglicans, and in the Catholic calendar is marked as Laetare Sunday, the fourth Sunday in Lent to honour the Virgin Mary and your "mother" church (the main church of the area). Historians think that children who served in houses were given a day off on that date so they could visit their families. The children would pick wild flowers along the way to place them on the church or to give them to their mothers. However, if you know anything more about the origins of Mother's Day, I love to hear more!

Cradlesong BlogPregnancy, Babies & Children's Expo
General
Sophie and I went to the Pregnancy, Babies & Children's Expo at Sydney's Rosehill Gardens today and we had a great time. We were there for almost the whole day - there was that much to see! There are three large halls full of stalls displaying all manner of products and services and everything is well thought out and child friendly. There are even large parents areas in each hall with comfortable feeding chairs, change tables, microwaves and water coolers. In between browsing the stalls Sophie got to watch a live show of Dorothy the Dinosaur and Fairy Claire, visit a petting farm and a ball pit play area so she was happy too. It was a long, busy day but we both enjoyed it and it comes highly recommended, if you can brave all the parents and prams. It's in Sydney again tomorrow and Sunday so you still have a chance to go and if you are interstate you can see when it comes to you in my article, Pregnancy, Babies & Children's Expo - Dates and Locations.

Cradlesong BlogHuggies Lounge
General
On Wednesday I went to the Huggies lounge in Chatswood. The session started with some entertainment for the kids. There was some signing and dancing followed by a story. Then the little ones were given colouring books and crayons to keep them occupied while the guest speaker spoke. Sophie loved all of the fun. The guest speaker was Leanne Cooper, the Huggies nutritionist. Her talk was brief and quite interesting, but there was nothing really new I didn't think. She did mingle afterwards answering questions, so I think if I'd had a specific problem she could of offered some help. For us though, it was a pleasant break from shopping and Sophie got a balloon to go home with which is always good.
